In February we took a trip to see Andrea and Greg in Queenstown (again - they gifted us the flights as a thank you for helping out with their wedding last year). These photos are from a day tramp we did from the West Matukituki Valley, to the Rob Roy glacier.
It was a reasonably hard, though scenic, slog up the valley to the glacier. Well worth it when we got there though, lots of ice and waterfalls and such like - a good spot for a bite of lunch. It was a much hotter day than these photos seem to indicate - the ice makes it look very wintry but it would have been in the order of 30 degrees (celsius).
We were good and obeyed the signs saying "please don't feed the kea" but obviously not everybody is as disciplined. One of the kea in particular seemed to take a shine to Dave's hat, resulting in a pretty good close-up photo opportunity :-)

I love the Rob Roy glacier hike! Oops, I mean tramp. And have had a number of close encounters with Keas. Didn't see any last time in December, though some of the Americans we were with reported "a big annoying bird" following them ... sigh.
It was definitely a great walk, thoroughly enjoyed by most of all of us (other than my groin muscle and your stomach muscles)! I have to go through our photos and send some relevant and pretty ones to the inlaws this week... good to know you are just as far behind in your photo sorting as we are! Pleased you enjoyed thr trip - Blair and Susan have confirmed for September so the Jarvis lodge will continue to be well utilised! No bookings yet for winter festival, which is surprising...
